When success does not feel how you thought it would
What Is the Pattern Recognition Collection™?
The Pattern Recognition Collection™ is a growing library of downloadable self-reflection workbooks designed to help you recognise recurring patterns in your thoughts, behaviours, relationships and everyday life.
Sometimes the problem is not that you are struggling to succeed. It is that you keep achieving the things you wanted, but the feeling you expected from them does not last.
This workbook helps you recognise the patterns that can develop when achievement keeps moving forward, but something still feels missing.
I got what I wanted. Why do I still feel empty?
Why does every achievement wear off so quickly?
Why am I already thinking about the next goal?
Shouldn't I feel happier than this?
When achievement has become such a big part of your life, it can be difficult to notice the smaller thoughts, behaviours and choices that are keeping you focused on achieving more while other parts of your life receive less attention.
Pattern recognition helps you identify the patterns surrounding your success and recognise what else may need your attention.
That is where success starts becoming about more than the next achievement.
When achieving more still leaves something missing

Untangle the invisible
Rather than looking at each achievement as a separate event, this volume helps you recognise when the same patterns of thinking, behaviour and choices keep showing up around success.
By looking at the pattern more clearly, you can begin to notice what happens after the goal is reached, where your attention immediately goes next and which parts of your life may be receiving less of you.
At Grid Society, we call these recurring patterns Grey Grid Roundabouts™.
One thought at a time
Focusing on one recurring pattern at a time makes it easier to see how you are experiencing your success, recognise what keeps repeating and identify what else might deserve your attention.
“I won’t do that again” starts sounding familiar...
Our Grey Voices workshop brought us here...
It started in our Workshops
The ideas behind this workbook grew from our Confront the Grey Voices™ workshop, delivered to counsellors, students and professionals across different settings.
Grey Voices™ do not only appear when things are going badly. They can also show up when life appears to be going well. You achieve the goal, reach the milestone or create the success you wanted, yet another internal conversation begins.
I should feel happier than this.
Why does this not feel like enough?
What do I need to achieve next?
Again and again, we saw that success did not necessarily silence the Grey Voice. Sometimes it simply gave it something new to talk about.
Built around the Grid Society™ concept
The collection is built around the Universal Grid™, our signature Grid Society™ concept. A concept that we have successfully used with counsellors, educators, colleges, universities and professionals.
The Grey Grid™, Green Grid™ and Orange Grid™ provide three different perspectives for exploring your thinking, making recurring patterns easier to recognise and understand.
From workshops to the Pattern Recognition framework
We wanted to take what we were seeing in our workshops and create something people could continue using afterwards. Volume 7 grew from recognising that recurring patterns can exist around success too.
Rather than assuming achievement should automatically create fulfilment, we wanted to help people recognise the patterns that can develop around it: the thoughts, behaviours and internal conversations that keep showing up even when things are going well.
That became part of the Pattern Recognition framework, turning those recurring patterns into a structured, downloadable workbook people can return to when success looks good on paper, but something still feels missing.
3 ways to use Volume 7:
The Empty Success Workbook
How people use the workbook
#1
4 a.m. Grey Grid check-up
Use it when you are awake at 4 a.m. and your Grey Voice starts comparing your life to everyone else’s and amplifying the emptiness. Open the 4 a.m. section, recognise when you have entered the Grey Grid Roundabout™ and start finding your nearest exit.
#2
Use the Matrix to enter a new season
Use the Pattern Recognition Matrix™ to recognise your pattern without minimising or feeling guilty about your success. Look back at what you have achieved without immediately rushing towards the next goal. You have done well. Now you can recognise what you want more of and give yourself permission to enter a new season.
#3
Journal the next chapter
Use the journalling sections to record what is already good in your life and what you want to add to it. New interests, relationships, experiences, connections and parts of yourself you want to explore. Your success stays. You are simply making room for more life around it.
The Pattern Recognition Collection continues...

Designed for real life, the collection can go wherever you do.
Open a workbook on your phone at a café, take it with you on your tablet while travelling, use it on your computer at home or print it when you want to work with pen and paper.
